Don't Compost those Veggies Scraps Yet!!!!

Hey, don't throw those vegetables in the compost just yet!  Use those veggies to make fresh, homemade, and almost free vegetable broth.  It's so easy you'll wonder why you've never done it before.  Mostly it's just a lot of waiting.  Waiting to get enough vegetables, waiting for the broth to simmer, well, I guess that's all the waiting.  Alright, let's get started!

First of all, start by saving all of your vegetable scraps...
...and put them in a bag in the freezer until your have a full baggie.
Now that you've gotten a full bag of frozen vegetables, pour them in a pot and fill the water to just above the veggies.  Add some garlic and some bay leaves.
Now bring them to a boil, then simmer covered for several hours.
They will really cook down and smell DELICIOUS!!!
Now it's time to drain the broth.  You can drain 2 times if you'd like, once through the colander and another time through a cheese cloth.  I usually just skip the second draining though because I don't mind the tiny pieces of vegetables still in my broth.  After all, it is vegetable broth!
Here are our drained vegetables...
...and here is our finished broth - DELICIOUS!
Now you can take those vegetables and add them to your compost.

I hope this will help you make your own broth. Let me know how you like it!

**do not use to many broccoli scraps, they do not make good broth at all, and it smells horrible simmering all day!
